||Bay Vet Group New graduate vacancies 2019
Bay Vet Group is an independently owned, RCVS accredited, 100% companion animal practice on the South coast of Devon, between Exeter and Paignton. Voted Best Independent Small Animal Veterinary Group Devon in the 2018 Animal Health & Wellness Awards we are proud to have served the local pet community for over 50 years
This will be our fifth year with our new graduate programme; we aim to provide a supportive environment in which to hone the skills learned at Veterinary school in the transition from University to companion animal practice.
Our practices are based in Teignmouth, Torquay, Chelston and Paignton with our main surgery being located in Dawlish. Over the last few years the practice has invested heavily and are now proud to be able to offer CT, digital radiography, quality ultrasound scanners (Including Doppler), quality anaesthetic monitoring equipment, excellent surgical and consulting facilities including two dental suites, full IDEXX laboratory facilities and microscopy. Most importantly we pride ourselves on our excellent team of experienced clinicians with the added expertise of certificate holders in Cardiology, Dermatology, Small animal surgery, ophthalmology and dentistry. Our Paignton surgery was purpose built and opened in January 2017, we have just finished refurbishing our Dawlish surgery with an additional theatre and separate kennels/cattery.
This year we are looking to employ a new graduate into our practice, with the aim that by the end of the two year post our new vet will be confident and capable in a sole charge situation on a first opinion basis.
This is a full time position equivalent to 40 hours a week, with a generous out of hour’s rota. We offer our own out of hour’s service to our clients; the out of hour’s rota is shared between our junior vets, backed up by our senior vets who are available to help when required. You are also supported on call by one of our RVN’S, SVN’S or experienced Veterinary Nursing assistants.
In the first year our aim is to get core surgical and consulting skills established, to feel confident as first opinion surgeons and to be confident in making diagnoses.
In the second year we expect these core skills to be used to expand experience and we very much enjoy seeing our new graduates rapidly gaining confidence, knowledge and skills.
Many of our previous graduates have stayed on after their contracted two years and we are always on the lookout for Veterinary surgeons who want to grow and develop specialised skills, we are keen to find new graduates who would like to develop their careers further into advanced surgery or dentistry.
We have a really friendly team and encourage our team to socialise together outside of work. We hold many practice social events such as barbeques, meals and our infamous Christmas party.
South Devon offers one of the best quality of life areas to live in; our practices are all within a mile of great beaches! Water sports in and on water available locally including sailing, surfing, kite surfing and sea kayaking, with many good local clubs. Dartmoor is a 15 minutes’ drive away which is great for hiking, horse-riding and cycling. The city of Exeter is only a 20 minute drive away, and good transport links gives easy access to London and the rest of the UK.
We are offering an excellent tax efficient £75,000 starting package over two years with 6 weeks holiday (including bank holidays)
Driving license and own transport essential for this position
Business mileage paid. We also have a practice van for use for attending home visits and transferring patients between surgeries.
Accommodation is provided, including utilities (not council tax) in a modern double bedroom private annexed flat. RCVS subscriptions and VDS cover paid.
CPD allowance provided and actively encouraged; we are a member of the Western Counties Veterinary association and in the past few years our vets have gone on CPD to Florida, Luxembourg, Austria, Barcelona as well as BSAVA and LVS.
