General Responsibilities
Responsible for maintaining day to day duties of care and administration
- Care for hospitalised patients- including patient monitoring and health checking, feeding, grooming, and walking animals
- Dispatch lab work
- Perform diagnostic tests, e.g. blood sampling, urine analysis and x-rays
- Prepare animals for surgery and perform some minor procedures, e.g., suturing wounds and dental hygiene
- Monitor anaesthesia
- Assist veterinary surgeons with operations
- Work to the professional code of conduct
- Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the practice
- Confidently handle and restrain animals
- Scheduling appointments for clients and patients
- Dealing with payments
- Sort and distribute incoming and outgoing post/deliveries
- Use of practice software
- Cleaning out kennels and isolation
Client Management
- Greet and welcome clients and visitors in a courteous, friendly, professional manner
- Communicate with pet owners, gaining their trust and reassuring them about their animal’s treatment
- Verify and update client information confidentially
- Move clients through appointments as scheduled
- Respond and comply to client requests and seek help when needed
- Collect and receipt payments from clients
- Ensure all clients are kept regularly and fully informed about their animals when under the care of the practice e.g. progress update of in-patients, costs or the timings of future appointments
- Educate pet owners on animal health, including vaccinations, worming, flea prevention and appropriate nutrition
- Respond to all client queries and complaints in a timely and efficient manner
- Admit and discharge patients, ensuring clients are updated fully on treatments done and receive all relevant drugs and information.
What to Expect
- Every day will bring different challenges, but this variety is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the role
- The job can be physically demanding. You will be on your feet a lot and may be involved in lifting and retraining animals
- Practice hygiene tasks, including disinfecting kennels, floors and sterilising surgical equipment is an important and integral part of the role
- As you are required to be hands-on with a range of animals, bites and scratches are a potential risk
- You will play a key role supporting pet owners in making (sometimes difficult) decisions regarding their animal’s care and wellbeing

Experience
The ideal candidate must have worked in a Veterinary environment in a Registered Nurse role for 2 years minimum
Salary
The role has the scope to earn up to £27,000 depending on competence and experience.
Work Hours
The hours of work are 37.5 hours per week (exclusive of lunch breaks), Monday to Friday and Saturday mornings will be on a ratio of 1:3/4
Your daily start and finish times will be as per the rota and will vary from the following shifts: 8am – 4pm, 11.30am – 7.30pm, or a split day of 8am – 12.30pm then 4.30pm – 7.30pm.
Drip Checks
Drip checks are paid at the rate of £20 per visit
Probationary Period
6 months
Holiday Entitlement
20 days, this will increase annually by one day for up to 5 full working years + 8 banks holidays
CPD and RCVS Fees
An annual allowance of up to £500 will be available for CPD, with prior agreement. RCVS annual renewal fees will be paid for by the Practice
